Come experience Chinese New Year through Hakka-style celebrationThe 2018 Hakka-style Chinese New Year Celebration is going to take place on February 3rd at New Tile House Hakka Cultural District in Zhubei City, Hsinchu County. There will be a series of DIY activities, such as bookmark papercutting and doufang and red envelope printing featuring the illustration of the coming year’s animal of Chinese Zodiac—dog. Hsinchu County Magistrate Chiu Ching-chun and Director of Cultural Affairs Bureau Zhang Yi-zhen unveiled the prints in advance and invited people to join in this joyful event.

Magistrate Chiu Said that the hand printed doufangs will bring good luck throughout the year, and the hand printed red envelopes will deliver your sincerest blessings to those who receive them.

This year’s Hakka-style Chinese New Year Celebration will be held from 9:30 to 17:00 on February 3rd. The festivity will begin with a creative balloon show featuring “the year of dog,” followed by activities including the doufang and red envelope printing, bookmark papercutting, and mocha pounding. In the afternoon, a calligrapher will write spring couplets on the spot for visitors for free (only 100 couplets). Besides, visitors can also make vegetable baozis themselves and hang around the farmers’ market consisting of nearly 50 stands and stalls. These creative and interesting activities are appropriate for the entire family. For more information, please refer to the Facebook Fan Page of Cultural Affairs Bureau of Hsinchu County Government.
