Eating duck eggs and rowing dragon boats for celebrating Dragon Boat FestivalThe 2017 Hsinchu County Magistrate Cup Dragon Boat Race was held at Chihe Lake in Xinfeng Township on May 27. There were 37 teams, nearly 900 people, from all over Taiwan took part. This year’s race was divided into 4 events, including men’s boat race, women’s boat race, mixed boat race and open boat race (for male participants all over Taiwan). In addition, there was a special fun event exclusively for the four teams, Hsinchu County Government, Hsinchu County Council, Xinfeng Township Office and Assembly and Village Chiefs. The competition was extremely intense.

Xinfeng Township is famous for its salted duck eggs. To promote this local delicacy and expand the market, 3000 fried duck eggs were given out for free at the venue. Besides, boiled duck eggs, tea eggs and other distinctive local products were on sale, receiving a good response from the visitors.

Deputy Magistrate Yang Wen-ke attended the event on behalf of Magistrate Chiu Ching-chun. He said that this race, characterized by power and beauty, is a symbol of unity, just like Hsinchu County integrating various fields to become “a city of hope, beauty and technology.” On the other hand, County Council Speaker Zhang Zhen-rong visited every stall and all the teams’ rest areas. He hoped that more and more people could enthusiastically take part in traditional activities to bring people closer together.

There were also talent shows arranged in Chihe Temple square in front of Chihe Lake. With exciting dragon boat races, tasty duck eggs and splendid performances, everyone had a great time on the weekend.
