2015 Taiwan International Festival of Hakka Culture Environmental Protection Bear Garden and Little Bee Flower Sea take the stage earlyThe 2015 Taiwan International Festival of Hakka Culture will be held from October 14 to 25. Environmental Protection Bear Garden and Little Bee Flower Sea made an early appearance on October 6. The Formosan black bear and little bee landscape art works of the two displays are made from recycled materials and have educational significance like promoting the concept of environmental protection. These places are suitable for family to spend their family time together.

Hsinchu County Environmental Protection Bureau general director Huang Shr-han said that Environmental Protection Bear Garden is in the Dream-building Feast-Sincerity Flower Sea scenic area. The small and large bears were made by the Bureau of Environmental Protection of Tainan City Government. The bases are made from waste polystyrene from clam frames, and pulp made from waste paper and glue. The soil under the flower sea is also made from waste glass. The silicon dioxide and calcium carbonate contained in the glass maintain a balance between acidity and alkalinity. They are fine in texture and water permeable, and are non-toxic so will not damage plants or the natural environment. Also, the little bees scattered around are made from used coolant bottles, with wings made from the blades of discarded electric fans and legs made from waste plastic. The bees hold distinctive agricultural products of Hsinchu County made from waste glass in their hands.

Magistrate Chiu Ching-chun said the city has, through Taiwan-Japan exchange, brought in the 3D light sculpture technology of ALUCO. It is the only fiber optical projection high technology that combines music, light, image and dance but does not require a time consuming construction or excessive use of materials. The aim of merging environmental technology into the design of various installations was to “Let trash also be a resource”. Through the event, reinforce citizens’ environmental protection awareness so everyone works together towards the joint aim of creating a low carbon county.
