The 2023 Dongxing Canal Light Art Festival, planned for the end of this year, will have a different look. This year, Hsinchu County Government has invited Italian and Spanish artists to take up residence at the New Tile House and create new artworks. On May 25, an art exchange forum will be held at Xiao Rusong Art Park. Spanish artist Lourdes Salcedo Tavira and Taiwanese artists have been invited to attend. Hsinchu County Magistrate Yang Wen-ke pointed out that this year marks the third Dongxing Canal Light Art Festival. Exhibitions at the previous two years’ Light Art Festival garnered a lot of attention; many people visited and enjoyed themselves at the venue, so much so that they almost couldn’t tear themselves away. This year, the County Government is inviting Roberto Giordani, an Italian sculptor, and Lourdes Salcedo Tavira, a Spanish painter and sculptor, to take up residence and create a unique art hallway at New Tile House Hakka Culture District. This will serve as their base for creating during the Dongxing Canal Light Art Festival. The County Government hopes that cooperation with international artists will deepen art exchanges between international cities.
Lee Anyu, Director General of Hsinchu County Government's Cultural Affairs Bureau, indicated that this year’s Dongxing Canal Light Art Festival is themed around green living, sustainability, and environmental protection. International artists will be invited to visit townships in Hsinchu County and experience the grass-roots culture of the county. They will also be able to exchange their views with Taiwanese artists, and through a merging of cultures and media, create works of art unique Hsinchu County.
The Cultural Affairs Bureau will hold an art exchange meeting at Xiao Rusong Art Park on May 25. Artist Lourdes Salcedo Tavira, Taiwanese textile artist Li Ssu-wei, and Hsinchu County art Hsu Pin-hsiang will exchange their perspectives on art. Everyone is welcome to participate in the event.
The Cultural Affairs Bureau stated that the 2023 Dongxing Canal Light Art Festival will take on a different look when it is presented at the end of this year at Dongxing Canal, which is rich in cultural, historic, and hydrological meaning. The festival will present light and art creations made by domestic and international artists, and unique to Dongxing and Hsinchu County. Through visual, audio, and immersive installation art, the festival will create a comprehensive feast for the senses.
