How long has the COVID-19 pandemic prevented you from going abroad? Just follow along with the Library of Hsinchu County’s Cultural Affairs Bureau to go on a great journey of Southeast Asian culture. “Read Southeast Asia – 2021 Hsinchu County New Immigrant Reading Promotion Activity” starts today and will last until October 31. This activity brings you book fairs, film appreciation, DIY activities, and seminars featuring the local themes of Southeast Asia. We welcome all book lovers to join the library for an exotic cultural journey!
According to Hsinchu County Magistrate Yang Wen-ke, Taiwan has seen an increase in the number of new immigrants every year. The statistics show that there are more than 650,000 new immigrants in Taiwan. There are about 15,000 new immigrants living in Hsinchu County, among whom 6,000 are from Southeast Asia. In order for the County’s new immigrants to further integrate into local life and Hsinchu County residents to have better understanding of the new immigrants’ culture, the county government has actively promoted new immigrant-related activities. As part of this, the County’s Cultural Bureau has organized the “Read Southeast Asia – 2021 Hsinchu County New Immigrant Reading Promotion Activity”. Reading activities and a human library will help promote new immigrants’ home cultures, delicious food, and folk arts. This activity demonstrates the uniqueness of Southeast Asian cultures to county residents, while also helping new immigrant families stay connected with their homelands and mother tongues. The Magistrate invites and welcomes new immigrant families as well as those who are interested in the Southeast Asian culture to enjoy these tastes of other cultures.
The Cultural Week for Southeast Asian will be held in both the Cultural Bureau’s Library and the Hukou Township Library between October 24 and October 31. Through listening to stories, playing games and DIY activities, the participants are exposed to a deeper understanding of the Southeast Asian languages and cultures, such as Indonesia and Hong Kong. We invite and welcome all book lovers reading to have a great cultural journey. Please visit the website of the County’s Cultural Bureau for detailed information.
