Magistrate Chiu Visits Japan Where He Invites Everyone to View the Tung Flowers in Hsinchu CountyOn April 7, Hsinchu County Magistrate Chiu Ching-chun led a delegation of the county government officials to Kobe, Japan. They visited Arima Onsen and called on the Mayor of Kobe, Kizo Hisamoto, with the aim of marketing Hsinchu County’s hot springs, anime, and railways. Both Arima Onsen and Hsinchu County’s Jianshi Hot Spring have excellent water quality. Magistrate Chiu hopes that the two cities can engage in exchanges including education, culture, and tourism in the future to boost the tourism industry.

The bio-medicine and bio-tech industry is one of the main focuses of Hsinchu County Government’s policies. At present, there is a biomedical park in Hsinchu County, while National Taiwan University Hospital Zhubei Branch and Hsinchu County Health Industry Park are expected to be finished in the near future. Hence, Magistrate Chiu also visited Kobe Biomedical Innovation Cluster during the trip, hoping to enhance the medical industry in the county by learning from the example. He looks forward to future cooperation on the bio-medical industry between Hsinchu and Kobe in order to increase employment opportunities and bring local prosperity.

On April 9, Magistrate Chiu, who is also the President of the World Hakka Federation, attended the 51st Reunion Assembly of the Hakka Tsung Tsin Association of Tokyo. At the assembly, he energetically promoted Romantic Hakka Avenue (Provincial Highway 3) and Hsinchu County Tung Flower Festival, which will kick off on April 24. He invited Japanese visitors to Hsinchu County to view tung flowers, experience Hakka culture, and savor authentic food.

Magistrate Chiu also mentioned that 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival and 2015 Taiwan International Festival of Hakka Culture held in Hsinchu County showed the world the charms of Hakka culture. He thanked Japan for their participation, which not only enriched the events, but brought the people of Japan and Hsinchu closer together.
