2016 Hsinchu County Hakka Children’s Folkgame Carnival begins in Emei Township at Shi’erliao Tung Flower ValleyThe much-anticipated 2016 Hsinchu County Cycling and Hakka Children’s Folkgame Carnival was held in Emei Township November 12-13. Over 1000 visitors had a nostalgic time playing Hakka children’s folkgames. County Magistrate Chiu, Emei Township Mayor Jiang Ning-zeng, and County Councilor Chen Zheng-shun joined many others in exploring the Hakka charm of Emei Township by bike and playing Hakka children’s folkgames, remembering the life of childhood.

The event, which combined Hakka children’s folkgames with the scenic bike path along Emei Lake  attracted many keen cyclists, young and old, to Emei to feel the charm of its Hakka culture. Director of the General Development Department Chen Guan-yi said that the venue at Shi’erliao was full of old-time and adorable elements and let children to experience various Hakka folkgames which were not just fun, but they also allowed the children to learn scientific principles. Most visitors were brought back their childhood memory. 

A creative bicycle decoration competition and fancy bike parade attracted people’s gaze. Ha Xiao-yuan, a famous entertainer, also joined the event. In addition to children’s folkgames, visitors could also enjoy landscape art works, buy and or taste special local products and foods. Visitors were entertained by a series of splendid performances from Hakka musician Huang Zi-xuan, Mi Sha, and street artists.

This Carnival was held  to let children appreciate the fun of  traditional Hakka children’s folkgames, and to give Emei Township  distinctive features so that young people would come back to live and work, prospering the local economy.
