Hsinchu County Government Celebrates Double Tenth Day  Thousands of People Attend the Flag-raising Ceremony        Hsinchu County Government held the 2016 National Day Celebration and the Flag-raising Ceremony on the morning of October 10 at the square in front of Hsinchu County Hall. Magistrate Chiu Ching-chun, the county council speaker and deputy speaker, employees of county government departments and family members, and local people, with totally 3,688 people enthusiastically attended the flag-raising ceremony. Although drizzle was falling, people are still excited about the Flag-raising Ceremony specifically when the flag was hoisting.

        The Flag-raising Ceremony was preceded by a dragon dance performance by a troupe from Beipu Junior High School, the winners of two National Dragon Dance Competitions in this year. A special plot of dance, “Lion Crossing a Broken Bridge”, depicted the 8 different stances of a lion in an extremely lifelike way, which draws everyone’s attention. There was also a performance by “Ageless Stubborn Kids”, a drum troupe made up of seniors from Zhubei Community Development Association that is the first western style drumming troupe in Taiwan to be made up solely of people with an average age of 73 years old. The county also invited Hngyang Na Atayal chorus (泰雅之聲合唱團) to sing the ROC National Anthem in the Flag-raising Ceremony.

        Over the past 7 years, Magistrate Chiu, since he became County Magistrate in 2009, the various policies have been implemented by the county government are all been based on making people happier. Overcoming the county’s financial problems and integrating resources between industry, government, academic, research and medical, which created a high-quality standard of living environment has been created, allowing Hsinchu County to first prize in a number of prestigious competitions and be ranked top in various rankings; for example, being named the happiest city in Taiwan, taking first place for business solicitation nation-wide and also having the lowest unemployment rate in Taiwan; out of 145 competing cities this year, Hsinchu County also reached the Top 7 stage in the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF). These successes all show that Hsinchu is an international and technologically smart community. The ICF Top7 success was also another high-profile appearance on the international stage by Hsinchu’s 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival and 2015 Taiwan International Festival of Hakka Culture, all the events are letting the world to see both Hsinchu and Taiwan.
