2016 Hsinchu Art & Sport Festival. A massive spaceship and eight astronauts land at HsinwawuTaiwan has a space dream  in Hsinchu, the place that is closest to the space! A 12-meter high spaceship “Dream chaser” with eight astronauts and 12 astronaut figures were on diplay on September 12 at Hsinwawu Hakka Culture Conservation Area in Hsinchu City. Dressed as an astronaut, Magistrate Chiu Ching-chun had fun with adults and children moving hands and feet in front of an interactive screen and also sat in the pilot’s seat imagining what it’s like to fly a spaceship through outer space. The event will be staged until October 30 (closed Mondays). Everyone is welcome to the even.

The theme of the Hsinchu Art & Sport Festival this year is Space Dream. A landscape exhibition area has been created in Hsinwawu Hakka Culture Conservation Area. 12 astronaut figures stand erect around the exhibition area, there are totems including festival road run, indigenous people, Hakka floral fabric and the first prize of Hakka sacred pig competition on the 12 astronaut figure’s chests. Magistrate Chiu dressed as a spaceman with eight astronauts started the even. Magistrate Chiu said Hsinchu is a high tech place where has Hsinchu Science based Industrial Park, Tai Yuen High-tech Industrial Park and Taiwan’s two most important space research institutes are also based in Hsinchu, the NSPO and ARRC, making Hsinchu the closet place to space in Taiwan. The dreams of today can be realized tomorrow, he said.

The festival “National Day SUPER RUN” is highly popular by athletic people and will have 5000 participants this year. Also with a space theme, the running attire will also be a one-piece space suit. On October 10th this year the first space running event will take place on earth. Hsinchu Art & Sport Festival will last for 45 days and is expected to attract more than 200,000 people.
