Zhubei’s No.8 Parking Lot BOT Project will create northern Taiwan’s largest sky garden mall
On August 3rd Far Eastern Big City Shopping Mall Chairperson Philby Lee and President Alex Ro presented an optimization plan for the No.8 Parking Lot BOT Project in Zhubei, Hsinchu County in the presentation room of the Hsinchu County Government building. Magistrate Chiu Ching-chun expressed the hope that the project will be smoothly implemented following the principles of environmental maintenance, interaction between residents and business, rewarding the local community and co-prosperity. Construction will begin in mid-2017 and the new mall will open for business in 2020.

Magistrate Chiu affirmed the efforts of Far Eastern New Century in implementing the BOT project. He was happy to see that the building merge modern shopping mall and Hakka architectural influences and welcomed the shrinking of the site area to allow more road space to address the traffic problem. In response to public opinion, the number of car parking spaces has been increased to 1,485 and motorcycle spaces to 980.

In the presentation Far Eastern New Century explained that a multi-function green building with four floors underground and 10 above will be built. Road area will be increased by reducing the area covered by the building and the public car park and mall car park will be separated so people will still be able to park outside of mall non-business hours.

Around 500 square meters will be set aside on the first floor for an activity center for local residents. On the 10th floor, there will be a multi-function performance hall for the use of publics. The building is designed based on a Hakka Round House(Yuanlou) architectural style with roof and elimination of light and environment pollution. There will be a plaza on the ground floor in which a large number of plants will be planted. The building also takes Hakka mountain town imagery and reduces floor area layer by layer to the upper floor, each floor with its own green roof. The largest sky garden in northern Taiwan will be created.

To reduce the future impact on peripheral traffic, it was decided to merge the originally-planned two buildings into one in order to reduce the site area and provide more road space. The car park ramps will be located on Shengli 2nd Road and Zhuangjing 2nd Street. The mall unloading area will be on basement level 2 to reduce impact on traffic to a minimum level.
