The movie “Exciting Life” will start shooting in Hsinchu County from May 27th. Cameras are scheduled to roll at the restaurant Wind City of Night in Zhubei and Neiwan Theater in Hengshan. County Magistrate Chiu said that Hsinchu County is delighted to host film makers to shoot in the city. Set in a Hakka village, “Exciting Life” portrays a story about Taiwanese resistance to Japanese colonization in Taiwan during the 1930s. Through the lens of rise and decline of forestry and mining industries in Hsinchu, the movie depicts the genuine atmosphere and culture of Hakka villages. The movie would offer Hsinchu County greater exposure to an international audience.
Director Wang appreciated the support to the movie from the county. She recalled that she had a brilliant impression about the retro restaurant when she dined there many years ago. The half-century-old Japanese-styled Neiwan Theater preserves its original interior design with many old-time items displayed. These images had inspired her to write “Exciting Life”. The shooting in the UK and the US had both been complete. The movie shooting is expected to end in June after spending a week in Hsinchu. Wang was pleased that the movie could help market the rich culture of Hakka. Actor Chung-heng Chu was also happy to be a part of the movie. “Entering the retro restaurant feels like walking through a time tunnel,” he admired the sincerity and authenticity of the Hakka village, enjoying filming away from the city.
