After two intense rounds of competition in the Hsinchu County Museum of Fine Arts Design Competition, Hsinchu County Magistrate Yang Wen-ke recently announced the results. The Chien Architects & Associates team took first prize. Today (May 7th), a contract signing ceremony was held at the Cultural Affairs Bureau’s Art Gallery, symbolizing the official launch of Hsinchu County’s future cultural and artistic core. Many county councilors and local arts and cultural figures witnessed this historic moment.

Magistrate Yang stated that Hsinchu County is a “Tech Capital & Happy County” that spares no effort in cultural construction. The County Government is developing cultural facilities in accordance with plans for Hsinchu County, building the main library and art museum in sequence to bring an even higher level of culture to county residents. The winning design proposal incorporates the form of a Hakka-style three-sided compound, using greenery and water as pathways that extend into the art museum space. This design won unanimous approval from the judges. Seeing this work reminded Magistrate Yang of the Miho Museum in Japan, which is meticulously designed to integrate into the surrounding natural environment.

Magistrate Yang emphasized how confident he is in this cultural architecture, and his conviction that the birth of the art museum will be an important event for the future art and cultural community. This art museum will not only be a building, but also a cultural venue that gathers creativity, carries on memory, and initiates dialogue, as well as a new landmark of art and culture representation for Hsinchu County.

A Cultural Affairs Bureau official stated that the future Hsinchu County Museum of Fine Arts will combine architectural aesthetics, art exhibition, and public recreation functions. The first-prize design emphasizes organic integration with the surrounding environment and focuses on implementing green building principles. Drawing inspiration from the early compound-style houses in the Zhubei area, it interprets and transforms them in a contemporary way. This gives the art museum openness and harmoniously blending it with green belts and water areas.

Beyond the first prize entry, the works that reached the second stage each have their own unique flair. To allow county residents and art enthusiasts to closely experience these outstanding designs, the Hsinchu County Museum of Fine Arts Design Competition Results Exhibition will be held from now until May 25 at Exhibition Hall B1.001-002 in the Hsinchu County Government's Cultural Affairs Bureau Art Gallery.

This exhibition displays a design model, animated video, and detailed plans of the winning work, allowing you to gain a deeper understanding of the essence and concept of the design. Models and plans will also be on display for designs from second-place Kuo+Huang and Associates, third-place Mayu Architects, and honorable mentions from Tai Architect & Associates × Kengo Kuma and Associates and Yen Partnership Architects × Steven Holl Architects will also be on display. These works also embody excellent design concepts, showcasing the creativity of different teams.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau explained that this competition received 27 bids, with 26 qualifying for first-stage evaluation. These brilliant works from a variety of architectural design teams show different interpretations of the future, and will provide you with rich visual and creative inspiration when you visit.
