Tea has always been an important industry for Hsinchu County. The unique geographical and cultural environment here has nurtured the development of Oriental Beauty Tea, one of the world’s best-known teas. Blessed with cloudy and misty climatic conditions, the mountain areas of Jianshi and Wufeng become the birthplace of the Elegance of Oolong Tea high-mountain oolong. In recent years, the farmers of the region have also created their own Jianshi Mountainfresh Tea brand. A delegation from Hsinchu County will participate in the 2024 Taiwan International Tea Expo held at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center from November 15th to 18th. This will be the 9th delegation to share Hsinchu County’s beautiful tea at the expo. Friends new and old are welcome to come and get a taste of Hsinchu County’s cloudy, misty mountains!

An official from Hsinchu County Government’s Agriculture Department points out that the tea industry has always been a core industry for Hsinchu County. The tea farms that have grown across the hilly slopes along central and northern Provincial Highway 3 have been witness to the golden age of Taiwanese tea. The high-altitude areas of Hsinchu County’s Beipu and Emei Townships, with their rank after rank of emerald-green, warm, humid mountains, are ideal for tea cultivation. Add to this the unique honey-sweetness produced after tea buds are bitten by tea green leafhoppers (Jacobiasca formosana) during the growing process, and Hsinchu County’s Oriental Beauty Tea (also called Pomfong Tea) has become one of Hsinchu County’s most characteristic teas.

Jianshi and Wufeng Townships are located at altitudes of 1,400 to 1,800 meters above sea level. They have large day-night temperature variations, and enjoy moderate sunlight and frequent afternoon mist. With local farmers’ efforts, the high-mountain tea industry in these two townships has developed in recent years. They focus on producing semi-fermented teas such as high-mountain oolong tea, especially the Elegance of Oolong Tea brand. Hsinchu County Government and Jianshi Township Office have collaborated to run a series of trainings focused on transforming and upgrading the tea industry. The result is the creation of two tea cooperatives, and the unique Jianshi Mountainfresh Tea brand. The name derives from the wondrous mountains of Jianshi, and the freshly-brewed taste of good tea.

The 2024 Taiwan International Tea Expo will be held on the first floor of Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center’s Hall 1 from November 15th (Friday) to 18th (Monday). This will be the Hsinchu County delegation’s 9th time attending the expo. At this year’s Distinctive Hsinchu County Tea Display (booths K106–114 and K203–213), the delegation will include Beipu Township Farmers’ Association, Emei Township Farmers’ Association, Hsu Yao Liang Tea Company, Shangzhan Tea Farm, and All Win Tea Company. There, they will share the distinctive taste of this year’s Oriental Beauty Tea (Pomfong Tea) with friends old and new. The Hsinchu Farmers’ Association, Wufeng Township Office, and Jianshi Mountainfresh Tea have also been invited to present high-mountain oolong tea and black tea. Come to the exhibition, try a cup of delicious tea, and experience the refreshing atmosphere of Hsinchu’s mountains.
