AI EXPO Taiwan 2024, the largest annual professional artificial intelligence exhibition in Taiwan, opened with great fanfare at the Expo Dome in Yuanshan, Taipei. The event will run from April 24 to April 26, focusing on the theme of AIvolution: The Comprehensive Evolution of AI. Hsinchu County Government has invited the four major AI park companies to exhibit at Booth A5, making it the only county or city in Taiwan to participate in the exhibition. When County Magistrate Yang Wen-ke visited the exhibition on April 24, he commented that 20,000 people had registered to participate in the exhibition on the first morning of the opening day—he felt that the wave of AI technology was unstoppable! Magistrate Yang said that Hsinchu County Government is building a “technological capital and a happy Hsinchu County”. The government has incorporated a large number of new smart technologies such as Open Data and MyData into cities’ data platforms, aiming to provide services that make county residents feel more comfortable, and it has won many prizes for these services. Magistrate Yang welcomed all who are interested in the development of Hsinchu County’s smart city and AI development to join in the grand event.
Magistrate Yang then joined the IC Broadcasting Live Studio at the exhibition venue to discuss the trend of AI city smart governance and AI smart park development in Hsinchu County. He mentioned that Lin Yi-bing, a county government advisor and professor at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, is scheduled to present on the “Vision of Hsinchu County AI Industrial Park” on April 26 (11:20–11:40 a.m.) at the Unknow Lecture session of the AI EXPO Taiwan Summit Forum, which is highly anticipated to be an exciting event.
Magistrate Yang explained that the Hsinchu County AI Smart Park was subsidized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program. The park’s establishment was approved in November 2019, and investment promotion was completed in November 2020. Four major international manufacturers will be stationed at the park, and their buildings are currently under construction: Wistron Corporation, the world’s largest cloud server provider; Accton Technology Corp., a global major network communications company; Elan Microelectronics Corp., a worldwide leading manufacturer of human–machine interface chips; and General Biologicals Corp., a major provider of precision medical biotechnology. Plans for the park include the installation of facilities such as underground public pipelines, wireless networks, air and water quality monitoring, and smart streetlights. The park is expected to be fully operational starting in 2024. It is projected to create approximately 4,000 jobs and generate an annual output value of more than NT$100 billion.
According to the county government’s Economic Development Department, the Hsinchu County AI Smart Park is an industrial innovation base with “smart technology R&D and design demonstration, industry–academia cooperation and technology exchanges, environmental friendliness, and industry clustering”. This year marked Hsinchu County’s first foray into AI EXPO Taiwan as an exhibitor. In addition to showcasing Hsinchu County’s rich achievements in smart city governance and AI smart park development in recent years, the county also aimed to accelerate the alignment of AI smart park companies with Taiwan’s AI ecosystem by linking world-class enterprises with industrial, governmental, academic, and research AI ecosystems to jointly present the latest AI technologies and strategies for future city development!
According to the county government’s General Affairs Department, since County Magistrate Yang took office, he has been committed to the vision of creating “smart and sustainable cities and villages” that are “technological, smart, and sustainable”. Magistrate Yang has been promoting smart transportation, smart industry, smart governance, smart healthcare, and smart education and culture so as to comprehensively advance the development of smart resilience in Hsinchu County. In 2023, Hsinchu County was awarded the Smart City Outstanding Contribution Award for Smart Governance, and in October of 2023, it was honored with the IDC 2023 Future Enterprise Award – Special Award for Smart Cities – Best in Connected City for its Smart Traffic Management and Control System Construction Project around the Zhubei Interchange. Hsinchu was the only county other than the Six Special Municipalities to receive the award. As for the promotion of Open Data, in November 2023, Hsinchu County Government once again ranked first among the second group of local governments in the Open Data Golden Quality Award of the Ministry of Digital Affairs.
The General Affairs Department explained that AI EXPO Taiwan 2024 is jointly hosted by DIGITIMES, the Artificial Intelligence Foundation, and IC Broadcasting, and co-organized by the Administration for Digital Industries of the Ministry of Digital Affairs, the Taipei Expo Foundation, the Youth Department of New Taipei City Government, the AI on Chip Taiwan Alliance, the Taiwan Association for Blockchain Ecosystem Innovation, and Eden Social Welfare Foundation.
