Parental subsidy will increase starting 8/1 --Tuition in Hsinchu County’s public, quasi-public and non-profit kindergartens to reduce by NT$1,000.

Starting from August 1 of this year, the Ministry of Education promotes public, quasi-public and nonprofit kindergartens, and monthly fees will be reduced by NT$1,000. In addition, Hsinchu County Magistrate Yang Wen-Ke has actively increased public education and childcare services. The proportion of public education and childcare services in Hsinchu County has increased from 49% last year to 56%. To date, there are 83 public kindergartens (classes), 50 quasi-public kindergartens, and 6 nonprofit kindergartens. With the joint efforts of the central and local governments, we hope to further reduce the burden of parenting!
The Hsinchu County Department of Education explained that Hsinchu County has been cooperating with the Ministry of Education to promote the National Child Care Policy for Ages 0-6. Childcare subsidy will be increased from NT$ 2500 this year to NT$3,500 next year in two phases. This will translate into a reduction of NT$1000 in tuition for public, quasi-public and nonprofit kindergartens. If a family has a second or third child in a kindergarten, the tuition will be further reduced. Children from low-income and middle low-income families will be exempted from paying tuition.
The Department of Education indicated that for children ages 5 years old to under 6 years old in private kindergartens, the tuition subsidy will be based on the amount of the parental subsidy issued. In August this year, subsidy for the first child will be increased to NT$3,500; the second child will be subsidized NT$4,000; and the third child will be subsidized NT$4500. In August next year, the subsidies will be increased to NT$5000, NT$6000 and NT$7000, respectively.
County Magistrate Yang Wen-Ke stated that Hsinchu County has the second highest child population ratio in the country, which is quite high. Together with the county government team, he has also actively increased public education and childcare services, and successfully fulfilled his election promise of "50 additional kindergartens". Furthermore, from the 2022 academic year to the 2024 academic year, 37 more nonprofit and public kindergarten classes will be added to provide a total of 916 additional preschool enrollments.
At the same time, more private kindergartens are encouraged to become quasi-public kindergartens. The number of quasi-public kindergartens in Hsinchu County has increased from 32 in 2020 to 50 this year. Hsinchu County’s public education and childcare services have grown by 7%, and accounts for 56% of the education and childcare services in the County. By cooperating with the policies of the Ministry of Education to reduce the burden on parents during the pandemic, the County hopes that its people will be willing to get married, have the courage to have children, and be happy raising families.
