Five talented players from Hsinchu County's Guanxi Elementary School Baseball Team and top players from all over Taiwan made up the national team to attend the 37th IBA-Boys Nankyu Baseball World Championship held in Japan. The team defeated tough opponents, including Japan, Korea, the US, and Cuba, to secure the world championship. On August 2, Magistrate Yang Wen-ke received the players, the coaches, and the principal at Hsinchu County Hall, commending them for winning glory for Taiwan and Hsinchu County.
Principal of Guanxi Elementary School Tian Shi-chong presented the trophy, and the players presented the champion flag and baseball cap to Magistrate Yang, which created a touching scene.
Magistrate Yang showed that he would give full support for the development of baseball in Hsinchu County. Mayor of Guanxi Township hoped a baseball stadium could be built in Guanxi Township. Councilor Shangguan Qiu-yan also hoped a baseball stadium could be built in Hsinchu County. It could not only become a place where players could practice but also host professional baseball games to boost related industries and local prosperity, she added.
