Showing support to the New Southbound Policy, Magistrate Chiu leads a delegation to VietnamTo show support to the central government’s New Southbound Policy and cement friendship between Taiwan and Vietnam, Hsinchu County Magistrate Chiu Ching-chun led a delegation to attend the 2018 Đồng Tháp Lotus Festival. The delegation attended the fair by displaying the Yue Lao lantern, agricultural products, and specialty foods of Hsinchu County. In addition, Hsinchu County Police Bureau gifted Đồng Tháp Province with a remote controlled ride-on police car, signaling its determination to fight against drugs and crimes with Vietnam. Not only did the visit build closer friendship and create new opportunities for Taiwan and Vietnam, but it also allowed Hsinchu County to promote its tourism, agriculture, culture and industry.

Magistrate Chiu said that there are about 200 students from Đồng Tháp Province studying in Minghsin University of Science and Technology in Xinfeng Township, Hsinchu County. He hoped mutual exchanges about culture, industry, trade, and tourism could continue, and that they could promote both regions together.

Deputy Governor of Đồng Tháp Province, Tuan Jin Bao, appreciated Magistrate Chiu and the county government delegation for participating in the opening ceremony of the Lotus Festival. He indicated through the event, Taiwan and Vietnam could not only understand each other’s traditions and local specialties, but also gain substantial benefits by sharing experiences and looking for investment opportunities.

Commissioner of Hsinchu County Police Bureau, Chang Rong-Shing, indicated that great industrial development relies on public security. And considerable drug-related crimes can be committed by only a small number of people. Thus, fighting against drugs is really important. He hoped through cooperation between Taiwan and Vietnam, drugs can be blocked, and everyone can live a healthy and safe life.

Đồng Tháp Province, located on the Mekong Delta in southern Vietnam, has a total area of 3,283 square kilometers and a population of 1.66 million. Its current economy depends heavily on traditional industries including food, shoemaking, and plastic, while its industrial development has gradually moved toward electronic technology and ecological parks. The process of industrial development is similar to that of Hsinchu Industrial Park in Hukou, Tai Yuen Hi-Tech Industrial Park and Hsinchu Biomedical Science Park in Zhubei, and Hsinchu Science Park.

Hsinchu County Government took advantage of this exchange event to attract investment, hoping to invigorate the local industry and promote its natural and cultural tourist spots as well as the agricultural products. It is hoped that Hsinchu County can go international and make Taiwan seen on the world stage.
