北埔有名的膨風茶產期在每年農曆端午節前後,約國曆6~8月間,又稱東方美人茶或白毫烏龍茶、香檳烏龍茶,經手工採摘一心二葉的茶株,再以傳統技術重度發酵,生產過程繁複,產量少,加上茶樹對生長環境相當挑剔,更可見此茶之嬌貴。 因當初日人石塚英藏以一台斤相當於一個鄉長20個月薪水的價格搜購此茶,被人們以為是茶商自抬身價的「膨風」吹牛之言,後來得証此事後,膨風茶之名便不脛而走,聲名遠播了。 The harvest season of the famous Peipu Pong-feng Tea is around the Dragon Boat Festival every year, about June ~ August in Chinese traditional calendar. The tea is also called Orient Beauty Tea or Formosa Tippy Oolong. Isujuka Eijoh bought this tea at a unit price equivalent to the salary of 20 months of a township head. At first, people thought it was a story made up by the tea sellers to raise price. Later, it was proven a truth. Then, the fame of Pong-feng Tea spread fast through out the country.
