北埔有名的膨風茶產期在每年農曆端午節前後，約國曆6~8月間，又稱東方美人茶或白毫烏龍茶、香檳烏龍茶，經手工採摘一心二葉的茶株，再以傳統技術重度發酵，生產過程繁複，產量少，加上茶樹對生長環境相當挑剔，更可見此茶之嬌貴。 因當初日人石塚英藏以一台斤相當於一個鄉長20個月薪水的價格搜購此茶，被人們以為是茶商自抬身價的「膨風」吹牛之言，後來得証此事後，膨風茶之名便不脛而走，聲名遠播了。 The harvest season of the famous Peipu Pong-feng Tea is around the Dragon Boat Festival every year, about June ~ August in Chinese traditional calendar. The tea is also called Orient Beauty Tea or Formosa Tippy Oolong. Isujuka Eijoh bought this tea at a unit price equivalent to the salary of 20 months of a township head. At first, people thought it was a story made up by the tea sellers to raise price. Later, it was proven a truth. Then, the fame of Pong-feng Tea spread fast through out the country.
