獅頭山由苗栗觀望因形似一公獅蹲踞因而得名，山域南屬苗栗南庄、北跨新竹峨眉，屬「叁山風景特定區」之一（另二座山為梨山與八卦山），縣內獅山有巖寺、海會庵、靈霞寺、金剛寺、萬佛庵、梵音寺等景點，獅頭山是台灣知名佛教聖地，曾被列為台灣十二名勝之一。（如欲走訪獅山可由苗栗南庄進入，獅山旅遊中心 電話：03-580-9296） Lion’s Head Mountain is one of the “Three-Mountain Special Scenic Areas”. There is a batch of scenic spots such as Youyan Temple, Haihui Temple, Lingsia Temple, Jingang Temple, Wan Fo Temple, and Fanying Temple. The mountain is a sacred place to Buddhists, and it was once listed as one of the Top 12 Scenic Spots of Taiwan.
