Beidelaman Mountain, height of 1700 meters above sea level, is the “Beak Mountain” nicknamed by Hsinchu people. It was the place for testing Ataya youth’s bravery and wisdom. The giant trees of Beidelaman Mountain are the rare low altitude red juniper trees. They are able to persist to date because the Japanese thought they were not graceful in shape and hence gave up on using them in any application. Plus the Ataya people regard the place as the sacred land and did not let the outsiders enter, so these trees have been preserved well.
